Announce: WordPress plugin for Real Estate listings

I’m pleased to announce that my WordPress plugin, titled “Great Real Estate”, has been released to the public.

Free publicly available plugin extends WordPress blog software to manage Real Estate listings.

Great Real Estate plugin brings real estate content management to the WordPress community. The initial version features a convenient editor form to capture listing information such as price, bedrooms, and other features, detailed template tags for easy customization and theming, and pre-formatted quick start templates.

Developed by Roger Theriault, a real estate listing specialist, REALTOR®, and web development veteran, this plugin incorporates features designed to make any real estate agent or broker’s website more functional and appealing, and easier to use for both agents and home buyers. The free plugin, released under the Gnu Public License (GPLv3), is aimed at helping agents provide better services and getting their listings sold more quickly.

The plugin also permits users to integrate photos, videos, panoramas, downloads, and maps into their listings. Content from other WordPress plugins can be incorporated into the tabbed listing page display seamlessly.

The plugin supports customized outgoing feeds to other websites, so that users can distribute their listings to sites such as Google Base, Trulia, Zillow, or My Yahoo! users. And it incorporates options to conform to MLS rules for display of contact information.

Background

The Great Real Estate plugin is available for download at WordPress.org’ s Plugin Directory, and more information and support is available on the Great Real Estate plugin homepage.

Great plugin. I’ve installed and want to write about it and place it in my tutorial for WordPress on About.com.

One problem, Google map shows up and centers on the right spot, but no icon or map symbol to mark the spot. I’m rural and used geo coordinates. Help?

    Hi James, that’s great.

Have you set up a Google API key specific to the server you’re testing on? I’ve seen Google selectively leave out bits if you are using one for a different host. They will issue keys for “localhost”. The only other thing I can think of is an error with the marker function call, if you can send me the page source or point me to the site that would help.

    Great plugin !
I would like to add a “Deposit Required” for Rentals and a Few new Discriptions in “Features” Box.
Can you point me in the right direction.

    Thanks

  5. Roger Theriault Says:

Hi Mike, I posted a note in the Forums about that, and we’ll make Features manageable in the next release.

  6. Cyndi Says:

Great plug-in and much needed. I look forward to seeing future features. Thank you!!!

Looks great! Long overdue development. Is there any way of setting up listings into categories and sub category pages or posts? i.e. Quick listing as rentals, sales, district? Perhaps utilising tags??

  8. Roger Theriault Says:

Hi Kevin, you can use any existing page parameters to query, plus the listings data. I’ll be adding some extensions in a future version to make sorting and filtering easier. I intend to add a “neighborhood” feature. For now, pages don’t support tags and categories but there are third party plugins that do.

The plugin is crashing Firefox 1.04 and Safari 1.02 (Mac 10.2.8 Jaguar).
Also happens on your demo site rogertheriault.com
If I turn off javascript it will load.
I disabled all other plugins, Great Real Estate is definitely the one causing the crash.
I’m looking forward to using this plugin, please advise.

@KF, does it happen on a particular page? With a particular combination of content? If you can report further details in the User Forums (http://rogertheriault.com/forums/) it would be helpful.

I think this plugin should have been called Simple Real Estate Listings as i thing it would market faster. Anyhow well done for making it. Some feedback. I don’t think i can use it. Because i can’t add a custom field, because i’m not selling real estate i’m listing property investor portfolio and two deals i regularly find, so i need a field such as Portfolio or deals. I could not post For Sale or something else or i would be breaking the law!! No postcode field! 21 Million (Australians) of us don’t live in America! Also won’t use it because i want to continue to add property deals found and it could be 100++ over time. So can’t keep adding sub-menu separate pages under “My Listings” for example. All the listings need to be accessed from one heading page. It’s a great start for a plugin i think i’m sure you will expand from there so i will keep following it. If it’s more customized you will get people selling cars and all sorts of things.
