Great Real Estate version 1.1 released

I’ve released a few bugfixes and a couple of additional features today for the Great Real Estate plugin for WordPress.

Bug fixes are fairly minor and correct issues reported by users such as Map render errors caused by quote marks in the content, issues caused by not setting a listings index page, and inability to tab from field to field on the Edit page. See the changelog.txt for full details.

New features include a map option for the Featured Listings widget, an Italian translation (thanks to Rodney Tommasi), the ability to insert the featured listings widget in your page content using a shortcode.

New shortcodes take this format:

[featured-listings max="5",sort="random",type="basic",head="Featured"] will output a list with thumbnails in random order, 5 listings

[featured-listings type="map",head="All Listings"] will output a map of all active and sold listings (i.e. all listings appearing in your googlemaps RSS feed)

To use the new Map option in the widget, you’ll first need to add the new “googlemaps” feed template to Feed Wrangler, just like the other RSS/XML syndication templates. See an example on my site at http://www.rogertheriault.com/listings/. Note that the map centering as it currently stands may not be perfect for agents with a very broad territory.

The missing Zillow feed template is now included, and hopefully the Zillow folks will let me know if it’s correct in the next few days.

If you speak Italian, the Great Real Estate plugin is now localized for Italian. If you already have your site localized, you won’t need to do a thing; if you need to change your site’s language, see this page on the WordPress.org Codex: Installing WordPress In Your Language. And if you’d like to translate the plugin into your native language, please send me an email so I can send you the very latest .pot file and instructions. And thanks to Rodney Tommasi for the Italian translation/localization!

hi, and thanks for this amazing and unique wp plugin, i have a question:
why this plugin dont have a search engin like all others property scripts? i think that the only thing you need.

  2. Roger Theriault Says:

Search will come in a later release. Since most agents will have less than a dozen active listings, it wasn’t a mandatory feature for the first release.

Hi and thank you for your work; your plugin sound good!
Bu I have a little problem in the installation. I upgraded wp from 2.3 to 2.6 and always is ok. After I downloaded your plugin and I activated it following the instructions.
Now in my WP control pannel click on Real Estate–>Listing and after in add a listing; i write my article but it doesn’t seem like your in the screen shots! It’s like a normal wp pages or wp article…
Where I’m wrong? Have I to set some parameters?
    Thank you for your reply!
    Claudio

Claudio, make sure you follow the Quick Start guide. You have to set up a main listing index page and set any listing pages to be direct child pages of this page.

    Hi man.

I updated the plugin but you forgot to update the version to the widget:
    Version: 1.1

So in WordPress 2.6.1 it fusses that he wants to be updated forever, even updating.

Changing the version to 1.1.1 in the widget php file resolves the problem:
    Version: 1.1.1

Bye and thanks for the plugin!

  7. Roger Theriault Says:

Yes, I keep forgetting to update that version string.

In the next release the widget will not be shown in the plugin list anymore, to avoid the confusion with the version id. Meanwhile you can ignore it.

  8. Ney Says:

Looks like a great plugin but I had a few problems installing it.

I have WP 2.6.5 and after installing your plugin, it shows a duplicate plug-in on the inactive plugins.

Why do you think that is?

  9. Roger Theriault Says:

It’s not a duplicate, it’s for the widget. But it will go away after the next plugin version is released this weekend.
